El historiador sevillano Antonio Domínguez Ortiz (1909-2003), nos dejó este estudio "Autos de la Inquisición de Sevilla" (Siglo XVII) con el número 14 de la colección "Biblioteca de Temas Sevillanos", editada por el Ayuntamiento. El profesor Domínguez Ortiz, fue académico de número de la Real Academia de la Historia y de las de Buenas Letras de Sevilla, entre otras distinciones, destacándose el Premio Príncipe de Asturias de Ciencias Sociales (1982), el ser nombrado "Hijo Predilecto de Andalucía" y Doctor Honoris Causa de la Universidad de Cádiz. Sus trabajos sobre Historia fueron innumerables, siendo uno de sus preferidos el de la Inquisición en nuestro país.
A veces pensamos si no será bueno que de algunas cosas perezca hasta el recuerdo. Pero, ¿de qué serviría ello si no perece la naturaleza humana, cuyos instintos parecen inmutables? Vale más escuchar las lecciones de la historia y extraer de ellas, con modestia y serenidad, cuanto pueda servirnos para evitar pasados errores y luchar contra el monstruo que todos llevamos dentro. Con esta idea se edita la presente obrita en el sesquimilenario de la Inquisición sevillana.
